[Original #2] How Genuine is Social Media?

How genuine is social media in today's day and age?? Social media gives us a place to hide when we can not communicate our feelings. Although, social media should not be a scapegoat to rely on as people still rely on it. #sorrynotsorry

Social media has driven our society to be less communicative in person and more communicative through the internet.

Wanna make new friends?  DM them!

You want more likes?  Throw more #hashtags and get more followers!

You wanna hookup?  Go on Tinder

Social media now helps us with everything, there's no need to meet people the "traditional" way, such as, getting hit on at the mall, making new school friends at the lunch table, meeting people basically without getting social media involved.

People now tend to stay inside, instead of going out to meet people.

Social media creates lonliness or depression because the second anyone stops getting the usual amount of likes or attention on social network sites (SNS), they start to feel less appreciative.

Catfish? Cat or fish? Or neither.. The privacy of the internet through social networking profiles can be overwhelmly deceiving as anyone can be anybody they want without anyone finding out who they really are. Soooo... Are you a friend or a foe?

Catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not using social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.
This only says what the internet can behold on what can be potentially dangerous or just plain wrong to our social world..

What Li and Bernoff includes in this ladder chart is a list of positions that fulfill different roles within the usage of the internet in technology. This chart supports how technology only brings more 'collaboration' within the world using social media devices to be included in any part of the ladder.

You don't have to worry about keeping up with your family because social platforms like Facebook and Instagram keeps you caught up on "friends" and "family". As mentioned in class, grandparents or the elders are the highest contributors in joiners on social media due to the simple fact, "What are my grandchildren doing?" Social media allows families and friends to see what the youth or kids are up to in their day to day lives as they post and like photos and videos about everything.

  1. Hi Rocco, great post. The examples you described directly tackle your question, how genuine is social media? This is something I have been asking myself lately. Over the past month, I have noticed that friends that I follow on Instagram find themselves recording MINUTES of video while they are at parties or drinking. I ask myself, if you are at a party and having fun, why do you need to take out your phone to record every five minutes? Just a thought.
